About this party

Sala San Marco's New Year's gala is about as Ottawa-Italian as it gets: a long sit-down dinner on Preston Street, a dance floor, and a champagne toast at midnight. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner is served at 7, and the night runs until 1 a.m.

The menu is generous. It starts with bruschetta, fried calamari and zucchini, then pasta al pomodoro and a salad, followed by surf and turf (braised short rib with shrimp) and tiramisu. Wine is poured with dinner, there's a late-night buffet, and a cash bar for everything else. Momentum Music and Regina Bianca Music provide the live entertainment.

Adults pay $150 plus HST and children aged 3 to 12 pay $75 plus HST, with a kids' main of chicken fingers and fries, which makes this one of the few proper galas in the city that welcomes families. Tickets are sold on Eventbrite or through the Sala San Marco office, and they're non-refundable. Little Italy is close to the O-Train, but book a ride home in advance for after 1 a.m.
