“A real masquerade ball in a theatre, with a mask-making table for anyone who forgot theirs, is a charming alternative to a club.” — clubZone NYE editors
About this party
Walterdale, Edmonton's long-running community theatre, is hosting a masquerade in its historic firehall home in Old Strathcona, and it takes the theme seriously: costume or formal wear is mandatory. The ball runs from 8 pm to 12:30 am, with snacks, dancing, a promenade, photo opportunities and a mask-making station for anyone who arrives bare-faced. There's a midnight toast with a non-alcoholic option, and beer and wine are sold at the bar. Tickets are $100 before fees, and it's 18+. Because it's run by a theatre company, you can expect more effort on the atmosphere than at most bar parties. The venue is small, which keeps it social rather than anonymous, and it's on 83 Avenue a block from Whyte, so getting a cab or a late bite afterwards is easy.

Plan your ride home before you head out. Check Edmonton Transit Service (ETS)'s New Year's Eve service plan: late or extra service is often announced in December. Book a taxi or rideshare early, because demand peaks right after midnight, and never drink and drive.
