“Improv plus live-band karaoke for under $31 all-in is a cheap night that's guaranteed to be fun, a block off Whyte Ave.” — clubZone NYE editors
About this party
Rapid Fire Theatre's New Year's Eve mixes two things that suit a countdown well: improv and a live band you can sing along with. The night starts with a show from the company's Touring Company improvisers, then turns into BAND-E-OKE, where Lindsey Walker and her band, Friends with Benefits, play live backing for audience members who want to take the mic. A midnight countdown wraps it up. The party runs from about 9 pm to 12:30 am at the Rapid Fire Exchange, the company's home venue in Old Strathcona, so you're just off Whyte Avenue if you want to carry on afterwards. At $27 before fees, it's one of the best-value ticketed nights in the city. It suits groups of friends who like to participate as well as watch. Singing is optional, but you'll probably end up doing it.

Plan your ride home before you head out. Check Edmonton Transit Service (ETS)'s New Year's Eve service plan: late or extra service is often announced in December. Book a taxi or rideshare early, because demand peaks right after midnight, and never drink and drive.
