“Live bands downstairs, DJs upstairs and your own bottle of bubbly make this Whyte Ave's most complete bar ticket.” — clubZone NYE editors
About this party
The Black Dog is a Whyte Avenue institution, and its New Year's Eve has two floors working at once. Bands Bad Buddy and 36? play the main room from 10 pm, while DJs run the rooftop patio, known as the Wooftop, and a single ticket covers both. Doors open at 8 pm, the night runs until 2 am, and each ticket includes a 200 ml bottle of sparkling wine for the countdown. At about $40 on Eventbrite, it's mid-priced for a bar party, but you get two kinds of night for the money. Expect a busy, local crowd and a room that fills up fast after 10. Being on Whyte means you're surrounded by other bars if you want to roam before or after, though once you're in on the big night you'll probably want to keep your spot.

Plan your ride home before you head out. Check Edmonton Transit Service (ETS)'s New Year's Eve service plan: late or extra service is often announced in December. Book a taxi or rideshare early, because demand peaks right after midnight, and never drink and drive.
