“For $35 you get a live band and a ballroom full of '90s fans. It's simple, cheap and fun.” — clubZone NYE editors
A no-fuss throwback party for anyone whose ideal countdown soundtrack starts with a dial-up tone. Deerfoot Inn & Casino is turning its Sundance Ballroom into a '90s dance floor for New Year's Eve, with the cover band Silly Wrabbit playing live and a video DJ set filling the rest of the night. Doors and wristbands open at 9 pm, and tickets are $35, a reasonable price for a live band and a big ballroom on the busiest night of the year. Expect grunge, pop, R&B and dance hits from the decade, and a crowd that knows all the words. The casino has a hotel and restaurants on site, so you can make a whole night of it without moving your car. Tickets are sold through the Deerfoot Inn; check their site or box office, since we couldn't load it during our check.

Plan your ride home before you head out. Check Calgary Transit's New Year's Eve service plan: late or extra service is often announced in December. Book a taxi or rideshare early, because demand peaks right after midnight, and never drink and drive.
