Why we like it

“A beginner lesson, a served dinner and a DJ who plays real partner-dance music: the best bet for couples who want to dance, not just sway.” — clubZone NYE editors

About this party

This is a dancer's New Year's Eve: a seated dinner and a full dance floor at Sts. Peter & Paul Banquet Hall in Scarborough, near the 401 and Markham Road. It's run by a local ballroom and salsa school. Doors open at 6 pm, and the evening starts with a free beginner lesson from 7 to 7:30 pm covering salsa, bachata, waltz and rumba, so you can come even if you've never danced. A served dinner follows at 7:45, with wine at dinner and a sparkling wine toast at midnight. DJ Frank Bishun plays salsa, bachata, Latin, ballroom, disco and top 40 until 1 am. Tickets are $150, or about $162 including fees on Eventbrite, and there are no sales at the door, so book ahead. Parking is free. The event is open to all ages, which makes it one of the few NYE dinner-dances where families and mixed-age groups fit right in.

Directions

Plan your ride home before you head out. Check the TTC and GO Transit's New Year's Eve service plan: late or extra service is often announced in December. Book a taxi or rideshare early, because demand peaks right after midnight, and never drink and drive.
